With options exclusively for University of Pennsylvania employees and their dependents and for University of Pennsylvania Health System employees and their dependents, the Penn Dental Family Practice dental insurance plans provide coverage for all of your oral health needs, from preventive to cosmetic.

Open enrollment for Penn Dental Plans begins in April and runs through June. To ensure you’re covered when the benefit year begins on July 1, start exploring your options now and see how you can get more when you choose Penn Dental.

The Penn Dental Plans At-a-Glance

DID YOU KNOW: Even if Penn employees have elected Met Life, they can still be seen Penn Dental Family Practice! Many employees mistakenly believe that they need to enroll in PDFP’s plan to receive care there, but the truth is that PDFP accepts most major insurance plans, including Met Life. So, if you want to continue seeing your trusted healthcare providers at PDFP, there’s no need to switch plans.

Penn Dental Family Practice offers two dental insurance plan options for employees and their dependents. Both offer some of the most extensive and affordable coverage in the area. Here’s what you get when you choose a Penn Dental Plan:

  • Diagnostic and preventive care, including two annual cleanings
  • Dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and radiographs (X-rays) for children under age 14
  • Restorative care, including composite fillings
  • Oral surgery
  • Endodontics, including root canals
  • Periodontics, including scaling and planing and other gum disease treatments
  • Dental implants
  • Orthodontics for adults and children
  • Certain cosmetic dentistry procedures
  • Night guards for treatment of bruxism or other conditions

Coverage limits, co-payments, and deductibles vary by plan, with all plans providing a maximum annual benefit of $3,000 per person.

Access to Penn Dental Family Practice

Penn Dental Plan members enjoy more than affordable dental coverage that meets all their needs. Members are patients of Penn Dental Family Practice and have access to some of Philadelphia’s most experienced and accomplished dental providers. Here you can find all the dental care you need under one roof, including:

With two convenient locations, in Locust Walk and University City, it’s easy to get dental care where and when you need it. While Penn Dental Plans do not offer a “network” of dentists beyond PDFP, if you have a dental emergency when you’re away from home, you may be eligible for reimbursement for emergency treatment.

What Sets Penn Dental Plans Apart from Others

We know you have options when it comes to your dental insurance coverage. When comparing those options, consider some of the advantages that Penn Dental offers that other plans do not.

  • Access to highly trained dental providers, who teach the next generation of providers at Penn Dental Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
  • No need to worry about in-network vs. out-of-network providers
  • Access to all dental specialties under one roof, with no need for referrals
  • Access to 24-hour emergency care
  • Lower fees for services than other providers, meaning you will pay less out-of-pocket for co-payments
  • Higher coverage amounts for restorative care, periodontics, and endodontics
  • Coverage for orthodontic treatment, including invisible braces
  • Coverage for dentures and other prosthodontics
  • Coverage for night guards

In short, when you choose a Penn Dental Family Practice dental plan, you enjoy some of the most comprehensive dental coverage and care from some of the most accomplished providers in Philadelphia, at a lower cost.
