Clear Braces

Do you want a straighter, more symmetrical, more attractive smile while skipping the hassle and unwanted attention that can come with traditional bracket-and-wire braces?

Clear braces may be the solution for you.

What are clear braces? Sometimes called “invisible braces,” clear braces are designed using transparent or tooth-colored materials instead of metal. This design makes them an appealing choice for those desiring a subtle appearance during their orthodontic treatment.

Ideal for many teenagers and adults, clear braces provide effective results without compromising aesthetics. Whether correcting minor misalignments or more complex dental issues, clear braces are an inconspicuous approach to achieving the smile you want.

Before invisible braces, one of the things that bothered me was my ability to present in front of clients because I was always self-conscious. Since I got the invisible braces treatment, I have more confidence!

What Dental Issues Can Clear Braces Correct?

Clear braces for adults and teens can correct several common dental issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Cramped and crowded teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbites and underbites
  • Open bites, crossbites, and other malocclusions (“bad bites”)

What Are My Clear Braces Options?

Clear braces are aligners made from clear, medical-grade thermoplastics, polyurethane resins, or other polymers chosen for their transparency, flexibility, and durability. These aligners, or trays, gradually shift teeth into the proper position, in less time and with less discomfort than traditional braces do.

Clear or invisible braces can also be made from clear or tooth-colored ceramic. These ceramic braces function like traditional metal braces but are more discreet.

While both options can prove effective, you need to consult with an orthodontic professional to determine which one is best for you and your mouth.

What Will My Clear Braces Process Be Like?

During your initial consultation, we will answer all your questions and discuss whether clear braces are, in fact, your best treatment option for the results you want.

Assuming they are, your doctor will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth to create a digital 3D image for use in developing your aligners specifically for your mouth. You’ll walk away with a precise treatment plan, created especially for you.

Once you receive your customized and comfortable, BPA-free aligners, you’ll take them home and begin to wear them throughout the day. You remove them only when eating and when brushing and flossing your teeth.

How Long Will My Clear Braces Treatment Take?

Approximately every two weeks, you’ll begin wearing a new set of aligners, advancing you to the next stage of your treatment. You’ll also have occasional checkups with your doctor to monitor your progress.

As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gently and gradually begin to shift into place. You should start to see the results in a matter of months.

A complete clear braces treatment can last as few as six months and as many as 24 months. Clear braces for adults will deliver, on average, a new and improved, beautiful smile within one year. Clear braces for teenagers may last as long as 18 months.

How Much Will My Clear Braces Cost?

Your doctor will discuss the cost of clear braces with you as part of your initial consultation. They will also discuss your available insurance and/or payment plan options.

Penn Dental offers three affordable insurance plans that cover treatments other plans don’t, including orthodontics.

We also work closely with a growing base of commercial insurance carriers. Our financial coordinators will work with you to make sure you get the most from your benefits.

Why Do So Many Patients Prefer Clear Braces Over Metal Braces?

Clear or invisible braces are many patients’ treatment of choice because clear braces:

  • Consist of smooth, comfortable plastic instead of sharp metal that can irritate cheeks and gums.
  • Allow you to eat the foods you enjoy—no dietary restrictions necessary.
  • Require fewer office visits than do traditional braces.
  • Can be removed for short periods of time when needed.
  • Let you brush and floss with ease, reducing the risk of greater plaque buildup, gum disease, and cavities associated with traditional braces.
  • Yield quicker results, generally, than conventional braces.
  • Let you live with greater confidence and self-esteem, knowing your aligners are virtually invisible.
