Are you satisfied with your smile? Do you cover your mouth when you laugh or hide your face in this world of selfies? We at Penn Dental Family Practice think you are perfect, just the way you are – but we do understand the struggle that “imperfect” smiles can bring. All you want to do is express your joy to the world but insecurity comes storming in like a hurricane.
Fortunately for you, Penn Dental Family Practice has created 3 clever ways to achieve your best smile. Ditch the “How To Straighten My Teeth” quick fixes and let us lead the way.
With these 3 methods, you will be able to find the one that best suits your pocketbook and lifestyle.
Here at Penn Dental Family Practice, we have a team of orthodontists that are dedicated to straightening your smile. The importance of a straight smile stems from the occlusion of your bite. Aside from aesthetic purposes, straight smiles allow you to more effectively brush and floss – helping prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and adjusting the occlusion of your bite. If the occlusion is off, this can lead to jaw pain, TMJ, headaches and migraines.
Traditional braces (metal braces) can be worn as early as 6 or 7 years of age all the way into adulthood. Treatment can last anywhere from 24-36 months and in most cases are covered by insurance.
Invisalign (or clear braces) are multiple sets of clear, plastic alignment trays that are primarily used by teens or adults. Invisalign is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and treatment can last anywhere from 9-18 months.
Dentistry has advanced in aesthetics when it comes to improving your smile. Veneers are a go-to for many people who do not want to wait 9-36 months for braces. Although they are quicker (2-6 week wait), they tend to be more expensive than braces.
Veneers are not a form of braces and do not actually cause your teeth to move. Veneers give the illusion of straight teeth by placing porcelain over the front of your teeth (like a cover). Not only do veneers create a straighter smile, they also improve the color and shape of your teeth. If you simply are not satisfied in the color, shape and alignment of your teeth, veneers are the way to go.
The only “DIY”, at-home treatment we recommend is working with your orthodontist to begin Invisalign. With Invisalign, you will receive multiple sets of aligners to take home. This allows you to change out your trays on your own without having to visit your orthodontist for long periods of time (sometimes 6-8 weeks). Also, we at Penn Dental Family Practice are proud to provide you with the nation’s top 1% Invisalign provider. Your Invisalign provider may even be able to perform online visits, to answer any questions you may have an assess your progress. This may not be available in all cases but it is in many.
